Terms of Service

Last updated: October 7, 2026

1. The service

RateCard is an independent benchmark of contractor and freelancer rates by skill, seniority, metro, and engagement type. It is operated by Altshuler Family Holdings LLC ("we", "us"). Benchmarks are compiled from verified, anonymized user submissions and clearly labeled seeded data. Benchmarks are informational only and are not professional, legal, tax, or employment advice.

2. Plans and billing

Paid plans are billed in advance on a monthly or annual basis through our payment processor, Stripe:

Subscriptions renew automatically until canceled. You may cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Annual plans are refunded on a pro-rata basis if canceled within the first 60 days. Monthly plan charges are final once the billing period begins. Prices are in US dollars and exclusive of any applicable taxes.

3. Free contribution tier

Contributing one verified rate unlocks benchmark access for that skill category, free, on an ongoing basis, subject to our verification and anti-gaming rules. We may revoke free access for submissions that are fraudulent, duplicated, or submitted in bad faith.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with or without notice, and without refund for the current billing period in cases of abuse.

5. Data and anonymity

Rates you submit are verified by work email and displayed only in aggregated, anonymized form (percentiles and sample counts). We never display your name, company, or contact details alongside a rate. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle your information.

6. Disclaimers

Benchmarks reflect submitted data and are only published once a category reaches a minimum sample size; coverage varies by skill and metro. We do not guarantee that any benchmark is complete, current, or suitable for a particular hiring or pricing decision. The service is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind.

7. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising from the service is limited to the fees you paid in the 12 months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including hiring or pricing decisions made using benchmark data.

8. Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes to pricing or plan terms will be communicated in advance; continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
